ABOUT
I handcraft “Vanja Homemade” drums at my cottage on Corinthia highlands since 2016. The method I use is that with staves, same as in barrel making, with main advantage the more direct response of the drum thanks to the wood grain orientation. Also, the use of glue is minimal (on stave joints which are between 12 and 30) with obviously richer, clearer, more melodic and vigorous sound even with mild drumming.
Stave construction is considered to bring out the instrument’s best self, by taking direct advantage of the natural acoustic qualities of solid wood at the highest degree.
- Shell thickness varies from 9 to 13 mm.
- Bearing edges are cut at 45°/round over or full round over (mainly on bass drums).
- Finishing is made with wood wax, clear or colored.
- The hardware I use is mostly SpareDrum, Gibraltar, dFd and Gretsch.
- Heads are Remo USA.
